Morgan Gunter, Psy.D.
Therapy
Since 2015 I have worked with children, adolescents, early adults, and adults in psychotherapy. My interests are in working with persons of color, at-risk youth, emerging adults, and those who have trauma-related experiences. I have worked with individuals and couples for a variety of concerns related to depression, anxiety, substance use, relational and interpersonal difficulties, maladaptive externalized behaviors, and conflict resolution. I take a collaborative integrative approach that incorporates evidence-based practices along with a trauma- and culturally-informed lens.
Education and Experience
I am a Raleigh native with a background in clinical and school psychology. I attended Wake Forest University (Go Deacs!) before moving on to Loyola University Maryland where I earned a M.S. degree in Clinical Psychology. My proudest accomplishment thus far is becoming the first doctor in my family. I earned my Psy.D. in Clinical and School Psychology from James Madison University in 2021. In 2020, I finished my third year externship at a state psychiatric hospital for children and adolescents. My clients ranged from 15 to 17 years old with diagnoses including bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, emerging personality disorders, intellectual disability, substance abuse, and oppositional defiant disorder. In 2021, I completed my predoctoral internship with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (now Department of Adult Corrections) before continuing on as a staff psychologist and psychological services coordinator. While working in the prisons, I worked with incarcerated men seeking treatment for personality disorders, substance abuse, depression, anger management, anxiety, identity development, conflict resolution, interpersonal difficulties, low frustration tolerance, medication management, and ineffective communication skills.
